Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
At Jiva Wellness, healing is inseparable from justice.
We recognize that significant disparities exist in access to, and the quality of, mental health care—especially for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, immigrants, and other historically marginalized communities. These inequities are not accidental—they are rooted in systemic oppression, and as a mental health practice, we take seriously our role in addressing and disrupting them.
We are committed to creating a space where clients of all identities feel safe, seen, and valued. This means acknowledging the racial, social, and political dynamics that often shape people’s lived experiences and mental health. We believe it is not only important—but necessary—to be open to exploring how these realities show up in the therapeutic relationship, and to consistently examine and evolve our own practices in response.
Our work centers individuals navigating intergenerational trauma, cultural displacement, and identity-based stress. We honor the stories carried through ancestral lines, and we affirm the right of every person to be witnessed in their complexity—without needing to explain or justify who they are.
Jiva Wellness is located in Fairfax, Virginia, on the unceded ancestral lands of the Manahoac, Piscataway, Doeg, and Patawomeck peoples. We humbly acknowledge the original stewards of this land and their ongoing connection to it.
We are actively committed to anti-racism, cultural humility, and advocacy—both within and beyond the therapy room. This includes examining how our field upholds barriers to care, aligning with organizations that promote access and equity, and being in ongoing dialogue about how to do better.
You are welcome here—in all of your identity, in all of your history, and in all of your becoming.
